Movie Review- Orphan (2009)

Today I would like to introduce Orphan. This work was directed by Jaume Collet- Serra. It was released in Japan on October 10, 2009. The story of this movie depicts the tragedy caused by the beautiful girl Esther, who was adopted by her family, and various incidents arise from Esther's extraordinary hunger for love.

Kate Coleman (Vera Farmiga) and her husband John (Peter Sarsgaard) have miscarried their third child and are unable to heal their emotional wounds. The couple decided to adopt a 9-year-old girl Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman) to get out of suffering. Esther was a little weird, but she had a sane and serious personality, and the couple imagined a happy family. However, Esther gradually began to behave strangely, revealing her terrifying nature. Esther suffered from a condition called pituitary dysfunction due to hormonal abnormalities. This is a real illness, and there are real people whose appearance and age do not match. And in fact, there was an Esther-like incident about a person who sneaked into his house by disguising as his age. The case is commonly known as the "Natalia case".

When I first watched this movie, I thought it was awkward, but I thought it was a really interesting work for a psychological horror. This  story treats Esther as the worst, but the couple who took over Esther also has problems. I think the impression will change before and after watching this movie. It seems that there was actually a similar incident, and If you are interested, please check out Orphan and the incident.
