Movie Review- Midsommar (2019)

Today I will talk about Midsommar. This is a psychological horror movie released in 2019, directed by Ari Aster and starring Florence Pugh. This movie offers a horror experience that is different from regular horror movies. The stage of this work is Sweden. There are many beautiful scenes that you can't think of as a horror movie, so please pay attention to them as well.

First, I would like to introduce the characters. The main character is Danny Arder (Florence Pugh). Her lover, Christian Hughes (Jack Reynor), attends the same college as Danny. Six other friends will appear. Christian’s friend Pele invites him to the Midsommar Festival in her clan's hometown of Holga. Christian invites Danny and they go to Sweden with his six friends.
The eight people who arrived in the village of Holga were fascinated by the fantastic scenery of the grasslands surrounded by forests and the kind villagers in white clothes. But gradually strange things start to happen. I won't talk about details this time, but I'll just say that nothing is as scary as a religion-brainwashed person.

When I first watched Midsommar, I had the impression that the world view was beautiful. I didn't feel the urgency or fear of a horror movie, but this movie has something to attract. I think this movie that even people who are not good at horror can enjoy, so please watch it if you are interested.

Movie Review- Polaroid (2019)

Today I will talk about Polaroid. It was released in Japan on July 19, 2019. This is an American horror movie. The film was directed by Lars Klevberg, who also directed the reboot version of Child's Play. And this movie was produced by Roy Lee, who was also involved in IT. Polaroid was released as a short film in 2015, but it was recreated by Lars Klevberg. Now I will talk about the outline of the movie.

The main character of this work is Bird Fitcher (Kathrin Prescott). She is a high school girl who loves cameras. She got an old Polaroid from her part-time job companion. As a result, incidents will be occurring one after another. Simply put, taking a picture of someone with the old Polaroid puts them at risk. Bird is not good at socializing, but her friend Casey (Samantha Logan) invites her to a party. So she uses Polaroid to take pictures there. At this point, Bird does not know that the Polaroid is cursed. The story develops steadily from this scene. I won't talk about who will die and what's happening in the photos. However, keep in mind that the photos and the people in them are linked.

Polaroid was the cleanest horror movie I've ever seen, because cruel scenes aren't often shown. Also, the ghosts don't look scary. I like this movie, but I think it had less horror elements. So I think that even those who are not good at horror can enjoy it.

Movie Review- Decay (2015)

Good afternoon everyone, today I will introduce Decay. This movie was released at United States in 2015. It was directed and written by Joseph Wartnerchaney. The genre is horror suspense. The film focuses on how Jonathan (Rob Zabrecky) lives with the corpse. And it is a story that gradually approaches his essence. Next I talk about story.

Jonathan is amusement park cleaner. He is a germaphobe and worrywart. His hobby is collecting keys. But it is not just a key, it is someone else's one. He is so-called weirdo. Two girls thieves enter his house. When Jonathan talked to her, the girl was surprised and fell down. She hit her head and dead. He lives with the dead body of this girl. Another girl runs on the road and was run over by a car. Jonathan is not a murderous psychopath, but he is a mentally ill man. As a child he became mentally ill due to his mother's abuse and unusual education. Do you think Jonathan will get something by living with a corpse, and do you think his life in this movie is all real? I think it is more interesting to watch this movie  while thinking about his essence.

Decay's genre is horror, but I was not too scared. I felt more uncomfortable than that. However I think that is the good point of this work. I like stories, but I am interested in the visuals of a corpse. The visual of it is like art and it is amazing quality. If you are interested in this movie, please watch!!

Movie Review- MAMA (2013)

Hello everyone. Today I'm going to introduce MAMA. This is a horror movie produced in 2013. It is a collaboration between Spain and Canada. It was based on the short film released in 2008 by director Andrés Muschietti. The film was made into a feature film in Hollywood under executive producer Guillermo del Toro. Andy Muschietti directed this one too. Next, I will introduce the story.

Jeffrey runs an investment brokerage company. However, he is mentally ill and kills his colleagues Laura and Albert, and his estranged wife. He escapes with his two young daughters, Victoria and Lily, but causes a car accident. Jeffrey arrives at a mountain lodge deep in the woods, and suddenly something attacks him and disappeared. Two sisters are left-behind. Then "someone" gave them the fruit of the cherry ... It was a woman who looked like a black shadow. She killed their father at the lodge and raised cherries for Victoria and Lily. She helped Lily when she was attacked by the beast, and she made dolls out of wood for sisters, and playing with them on the roof of a mountain lodge, she called herself "MAMA." She is so obsessed with children that she mercilessly kills anyone trying to rob her. She is also very jealous of the child's affection for others.

You can see that this movie is a story of a mother who is obsessed with children and does not just hurt people. What was different from other horror movies was that there weren't many surprising scenes. But I was scared of this movie. The depiction is horror, so I was more scared than surprised. This work is very scary, and it has an unexpected ending.

Movie Review- Usual Neighbor (2013)

Good afternoon everyone. Today I would like to introduce Usual Neighbor, an American movie released in 2013. This work was directed by John McNaughton. The genre is mad suspense. The first half and the second half of the story have completely different atmospheres. It is a bit different from the horror movies that I always introduce, so please remember this work as well. Next I will introduce the story a little.

Marian was taken to her grandparent's home after her father's death. Then she found a bedridden boy, Andy, in her neighbor's house and they became friends. Andy's father understood, but his mother was unhappy with Andy and Marian playing. One day, Marian found an unconscious boy in the basement of Andy's house. Who is the boy, and who is Andy that Marian was talking. The highlights of the film are Marian's brave actions and Andy's parent's extraordinary love for him. Andy's mother is a super psychopath to the end, so that's also a highlight.

I watched this movie twice in a row. The reason is that the story was very difficult. I did not enjoy it the first time because it took me a while to understand. But when I understood the story the second time, I thought it was a very interesting movie. The first half of this work was actually a normal story and not horror-like, but in the second half, it suddenly became a psychological thriller and gradually became scary. It is a story of mam's crazy love, so if you are interested in this movie, please check it out.

Movie Review- Orphan (2009)

Today I would like to introduce Orphan. This work was directed by Jaume Collet- Serra. It was released in Japan on October 10, 2009. The story of this movie depicts the tragedy caused by the beautiful girl Esther, who was adopted by her family, and various incidents arise from Esther's extraordinary hunger for love.

Kate Coleman (Vera Farmiga) and her husband John (Peter Sarsgaard) have miscarried their third child and are unable to heal their emotional wounds. The couple decided to adopt a 9-year-old girl Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman) to get out of suffering. Esther was a little weird, but she had a sane and serious personality, and the couple imagined a happy family. However, Esther gradually began to behave strangely, revealing her terrifying nature. Esther suffered from a condition called pituitary dysfunction due to hormonal abnormalities. This is a real illness, and there are real people whose appearance and age do not match. And in fact, there was an Esther-like incident about a person who sneaked into his house by disguising as his age. The case is commonly known as the "Natalia case".

When I first watched this movie, I thought it was awkward, but I thought it was a really interesting work for a psychological horror. This  story treats Esther as the worst, but the couple who took over Esther also has problems. I think the impression will change before and after watching this movie. It seems that there was actually a similar incident, and If you are interested, please check out Orphan and the incident.

Movie Review- Halloween (2018)

Hello everyone. Today I would like to introduce the movie Halloween. This movie was directed by David Gordon Green and the film was released in the United States in 2018. This work depicts 40 years after the original Halloween directed by John Carpenter, the first work released in 1978. This series has been called America's Three Great Horror stories. The highlight of this work is that it is a sequel, not a remake of the 1978 work.

On Halloween night 1978, the murderer, Michael Myers (Nick Castle), escaped from the psychiatric ward and killed the people of the city. His purpose was to kill a high school girl Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis). But Michael failed to kill her. From this incident he became known as Boogeyman. On Halloween night 2018, an accident occurred while he was being to a transferring different psychiatric ward, and Michael escaped again and killed the people of the city. The story is that Laurie has grown up and decides to fight Boogeyman.

The reason I chose this movie this time is because it will be Halloween soon. I have heard the name Boogeyman, but I have never watched a movie in the series Halloween. My impression after watching this movie is that murderer easily and brutally kills people, and this is a type of horror movie that I have never watched before. The highlight of the movie is Laurie who has been fighting the murderer for over 40 years, but viewers do not know why she has been targeted so far. But it may be better if we do not know the truth, because we can look forward to the future story.
